Hello, my name is Derek Hanes. I was born and raised in the state of Oklahoma. I'm happily married with 6 wonderful children, in which my wife and I have raised and are now empty nesters. I've been in customer service all my life. I started out in construction, service, and remodeling of homes. Now I"m in the business of helping folks with their healthcare and life insurance needs. I am privileged and honored to work with my community and state to provide, educate, and empower people to make the best informed decision that fits their needs.

I was born and raised in a small farm town in Kansas, but now call Tulsa my home. I finished my degree at ORU in business and philanthropy in 2014 and went to work for a local financial firm in Tulsa soon after. During that time I met my now husband, David, and we have settled in Tulsa with our Golden Doodle, Oakley. We spend much of our time exploring the city and enjoying the outdoors. Shortly after gaining experience in the finance industry my desire to help others grew to the point where I decided to transition into becoming an expert myself.

As an independent agent, I specialize in Medicare and seek to make it simple, stress free and easy for everyone eligible. My goal is to be a trustworthy source and provide answers to your questions. I am certified with many top Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement and Prescription Drug insurance plan carriers and represent most major companies and am qualified to answer any questions you may have at no cost.

I was born in Oklahoma and raised in Neosho, MO. My husband (Derek) and I have 6 children and 6 sweet grandchildren who we adore. It wasn’t until 2009 when I moved back to Oklahoma that I started my insurance career and developed a passion for educating seniors on their rights and options regarding Medicare. Over the last decade I’ve been helping this under served population by empowering them to make the best insurance decisions for their individual healthcare needs.

In 2019 I resigned my position as Sales Manager for one of the nation’s largest Medicare insurance carriers to join the amazing team at OKMedicareHelp. I provided support, training and mentorship to hundreds of independent insurance agents around the state of Oklahoma and gave them the tools they needed to make the right impact for Medicare beneficiaries. The experience I gained in my previous role gave me a unique look at how to help navigate the complexities of Medicare for both Medicare beneficiaries and agents alike.

I grew up in Missouri and attended Rockhurst University where I played baseball and earned a degree in Accounting and Finance. While in school, I met my wife, Ashton. After I graduated, I moved back to her hometown of Tulsa, where we married at the end of August 2025.

Today, I focus on helping individuals navigate Medicare, while also providing professional guidance with life insurance, long-term and short-term care insurance, disability insurance, and retirement planning.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my amazing wife, being outdoors, playing pickleball, and staying connected with friends.

When it comes to work, my goal is simple: to help my clients protect their full financial picture through personalized insurance planning that’s built around their unique needs and budget.
